Tourmaline Minerals come in variety of color & specifically Pink Tourmaline is one of October Birthstones (together with Opal).
The name Tourmaline originates from Sinhalese (a language of Sri Lanka) “toramalli” which means “mixed gems” - Dutch merchants used this word for water-worn multicoloured pebbles that miners found in the gem gravels of then-Ceylon.
The first Tourmaline we know about was discovered in Brazil during 1500s. A Spanish conquistador found a green tourmaline crystal but confused the gem with emerald & it was only in the 1800s, when scientists recognised the gemstone as tourmaline. **People have probably confused tourmalines for different gemstones for centuries, until the modern mineralogy was developed better.
Tourmaline strength is 7-7.5 on Mohs Scale. To clean your Tourmaline, use soapy water and simply wash the stone with a soft brush, then dry.
